Guidelines for Using the Electronic
Submission System

Electronic Submission Reduces your Waiting Time
The Chemical Society of Japan (CSJ) encourages authors to prepare and transmit their manuscripts and associated materials electronically. This procedure will expedite the refereeing and publication processes. We highly recommend your using the Electronic Submission System to submit your manuscript to Chemistry Letters. The Electronic Submission System applies state-of-the art security mechanisms to ensure privacy for all electronically submitted manuscripts.

After reading the instructions, when you are ready to submit a manuscript electronically, visit the Electronic Submission System site!

Manuscript Submission

  • Before getting started, please familiarize yourself with the available submission options.
  • Manuscripts can be submitted in two ways. Please follow the instructions relating to your choice.
    • Online Submission (by PDF files )
    • Conventional Submission (by post)
        1. Online Registration (manuscript registration only)
        2. Manuscript Submitted by Regular Post

Online Submission
Manuscripts can be submitted online. Note tha the ONLY authorized data format is Adobe PDF (Portable Document Format). Depending on your preferred word processor, please prepare your PDF file as follows.

[STEP 1: Preparing the Manuscript]

  1. Using Microsoft Word
    [A] With the Authors' Template
If you prefer to submit your manuscripts with the Electronic Submission System, an optional electronic template for Microsoft Word is available. For online submission, authors are encouraged to submit manuscripts using this Template in order to speed the editorial evaluation process. If you attempt to prepare your manuscript with the template, please follow the instructions described in it.
    » Template

    [B] Without the Authors' Template
If you have already prepared your manuscript without the template, and if you can convert the manuscript data to PDF, the Electronic Submission System is able to handle it.
In the case that the manuscript is prepared without using Authors' Template, the text body should be written within the frame-sized 11-cm width by 167-cm length. Recommended format is as follows: 14-pt ine spacing, justification, 12-pt Times.
Authors are requested to submit all of the figures and tables on a separate page after the section of "References and Notes." And authors must indicate where to insert them in the text.

  2. Using Other Word Processors
Following the instructions below, please convert your manuscript to the PDF file.

[STEP 2: Converting Manuscript Files to PDF]

For detailed information and instructions for preparing PDF files of your manuscripts:
    • Download the CSJ Guidelines for Generating PDF Documents, a reference to assist authors in creating PDF files from their manuscript files.
» CSJ Guidelines for Generating PDF Documents
    • Download and install the CSJ Job Options for Adobe Acrobat Distiller.
      » CSJ Job Options
    • If you do not have Adobe Acrobat, visit the Adobe website to obtain Adobe Acrobat software for generating PDF documents. (There is a fee for this software.)
      » Adobe Product Website
    • For those who interested in learning more about Adobe Acrobat PDF, you can find more information on Adobe's web site.
      » Adobe Acrobat Information

NOTE:
Although your PDF manuscript file will be used for peer review, your manuscript, if accepted, will be typeset from your native word processing file, not from the PDF manuscript file. The template does not provide exactly the same appearance of the published manuscript but only facilitates the peer-review process by providing authors with a means to place their artwork and tables close to the point where they are discussed in the text.

Conventional Submission
Hardcopy submission is still an option. Authors should prepare a manuscript in an appropriate format. For details, please consult the Information for Authors. If you prefer conventional hardcopy submission, manuscripts should be submitted in quadruplicate to the CSJ Editorial Office by post mail. In order to expedite the evaluation process, we highly recommend registering relevant information about your submission. Otherwise, it is very helpful to provide us with the electronic data of bibliographic information that contains the manuscript title, authors' names, the corresponding author's mailing address, phone number, fax number, and E-mail address. Please save this information in any electronic media such as, FD, MO, or CD-R, and send it to us accompanied by your manuscript.
