Open Access Option
In order to ensure the sound and healthy progression of scientific endeavors, it is essential to make public the results of research that has been completed to make sure that researchers adequately implement these findings in their research. Therefore, we need to be aware of the importance of considering whether there is an environment in place wherein research papers can be widely accessed when evaluating future research endeavors.
From this point of view and in order to grant the submitting author with the option of permitting Open Access, The Chemical Society of Japan (CSJ) has determined that if an author whose paper has been selected for publication chooses to pay a specified submission fee to the CSJ prior to publication on the WEB, it will be possible in this case alone to remove all restrictions regarding said article on the WEB, enabling it to be freely viewed by anyone. The process followed from the judgment stage to publication for papers that have been selected for Open Access is identical with that of other types of papers. Also, papers contained in the printed journal will be handled in the same manner as others.
| 1. | Open access is available only for the submitted manuscript. |
| 2. | The submission fees for papers targeted for open access are:
100,000-yen per paper for “Bulletin of the Chemical Society of Japan” and 50,000-yen per paper for “Chemistry Letters”. |
| 3. | Date of commencement:
From the August issue for both journals for this year. |
The above-mentioned journals are published on the J-STAGE website. A test publication period spanning from January 2002 to December 2004 verified that the amount of web site traffic that both of these journals received by readers accessing them from all over the globe through the J-STAGE website was very high. We at the Chemical Society of Japan hope that researchers and funding agencies will make use of this system which will help to improve the overall level of visibility of research papers.
