50th International Chemistry Olympiad (IChO 2018)
We are proud to announce that four Japanese high school students will bring home one gold medal, two silver medals and a bronze medal from the 50th International Chemistry Olympiad held in Slovakia and Czech Republic, where the first International Chemistry Olympiad was held. The four Japanese representatives competed with 300 students from 76 countries for gold, silver and bronze medals from July 19 to July 28. The number of participants and countries was the largest ever. The competition was composed of one theoretical exam and one practical exam, both of which were to be solved in five hours. During the 10 day stay in Slovakia and Czech Republic, they built friendships through social events and excursions, and experienced the culture and society of both countries.
The Japanese team results are as follows;
Gold medal: Takanao Ishii (Junior and Senior High School at Komaba, University of Tsukuba)
Silver medal: Taichi Nishiguchi (Koyo Gakuin High School)
Silver medal: Yuta Masunaga (Seiko Gakuin High School)
Bronze medal: Yuto Fukumoto (Osaka Seiko Gakuin Junior/Senior High school)
